The answer given by the 4S store was that the taillights The shell absorbs chemicals and causes cracks, so the claim is rejected!
From the pictures of the taillights provided by the car owner, we can see that the cracks on the edge of the car's taillights are not caused by a collision, because such "regular" cracking should not occur regardless of the force of the collision, and, A collision will inevitably cause the vehicle surface to be dented or the taillight to fall off or crack.
The author learned from car maintenance experts that there are probably several reasons for similar situations: one is that the lampshade is aging or a sub-factory lamp is used; the other is that it is scratched or hit; the third is that the "car cover" falls off. Regarding the above three points mentioned by professionals, the car owner did not have a clear answer, but one thing the car owner is sure of is that the car did not cause a collision. However, the car has been purchased for less than half a year, so aging and the use of sub-factory lights are almost unlikely to occur.
In fact, it can also be found from the pictures that there are cracks in many places around the taillights, but there are no large-scale cracks on the surface of the taillights. The car owner said that at first, there was only a small crack in the left inner taillight, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. Then, more and more cracks occurred in the left taillight interface, and the area became wider and wider, and water vapor began to enter the car during the car wash.
So, is it likely that the fault complained by this rider is a product quality issue?
According to the author's understanding, the occurrence of lampshade cracks and cracks is not just an isolated case in the Dongfeng Peugeot 508L model. The author found on the car quality website that from 2017 to the present, Peugeot 508L has experienced many similar failures.
In fact, "cracked or deformed lampshades" are also common in other brands and models. According to the complaint cases, in addition to faults such as cracked glass, cracked or deformed lampshades, and cracked paint bubbles, the Dongfeng Peugeot 508L also has many problems with the engine, transmission, chassis noise, body accessories, and electrical appliances.
However, due to the continuous occurrence of the above faults and problems, Dongfeng Peugeot 508L has a very poor reputation among car owners, and its presence in the mid-size car market is extremely weak. Data from the Passenger Car Association shows that in 2022, the cumulative sales of Dongfeng Peugeot 508L were 6,936 units; in February 2023, the monthly sales volume was only 117 units.
At the moment, we can still catch the shadows of Dongfeng Citroen and Dongfeng Peugeot just through this wave of price cuts sweeping the country. In fact, they have been out of the mainstream market and mainstream attention for a long time. They have "time" but no "luck". The formation of this situation is also the pretentiousness of French cars in the Chinese market and brings the blame on themselves.
Citroën and Peugeot in the Chinese market are very special from the beginning. Their car-making concepts and essence are completely different from Japanese, German, American and even Korean models. It can be simply understood as: not down to earth! In this regard, its brand and quality, quality and sales are the best proof. Perhaps starting from this wave of price cuts, Citroën and Peugeot will further accelerate their departure from the Chinese market. I don’t want to waste our pen and ink on these brands!
