I don't know since when, there has been a saying that "halogen lamps = low configuration, xenon lamps = medium configuration, LED = high configuration", then halogen lamps are really low configuration, so bad? Today, the editor will review three types of headlights to provide you with a reference.
Halogen headlights
Halogen headlights are a new generation of incandescent lamps, tungsten lamps filled with halogen elements such as bromine and iodine or halide. After being energized, the electric energy heats the tungsten wire to an incandescent state and emits light. The electric energy is converted into heat energy and then into light energy. Under the same power, the brightness of halogen lamps can reach 1.5 times that of incandescent lamps, and their lifespan is also 2 to 3 times that of incandescent lamps.
Advantage:
1. Low cost and simple production.
2. Low color temperature and good penetration.
3. Fast opening speed.
4. When encountering rain or fog, use a reflector for better penetration.
Disadvantages:
High temperature, poor durability and low brightness.
Xenon headlights
Xenon lamps are abbreviated as HID, which refers to high-pressure gas discharge lamps. The working principle of the xenon lamp (HID) is a high-pressure gas discharge lamp, which boosts the 12V voltage to an ultra-high voltage of 23,000V, stimulates the xenon filled in the quartz tube to make it emit light, and then converts the voltage to about 85V to provide stable and continuous supply. Xenon bulb glows.
advantage:
1. Presents blue-white light, which greatly improves the brightness of road signs and signs compared to halogen headlights.
2. Compared with halogen headlights, the brightness efficiency is three times higher, providing clearer driving vision at night.
3. Halogen headlights consume more than 60W of electricity, while xenon headlights only require 35W.
4. Xenon does not have a filament structure, so its service life is much longer than that of halogen headlights.
5. Due to the working principle of xenon headlights, if a fault occurs during use, the xenon headlights will not go out instantly, but will gradually dim until they go out. This allows the driver while driving to have time to deal with the headlight failure.
shortcoming:
1. The light-gathering property is poor, and because it is too bright, it can easily dazzle the driver of the opposite vehicle and cause an accident. However, current xenon headlights are basically equipped with lenses, so this problem can be solved.
2. The penetrating power is too poor. In heavy fog, ice and snow, the penetrating power of xenon headlights is very weak.
3. Delay effect. Because of the working principle of xenon headlights, it takes 2-4 seconds to light them up.
LED headlight
The Chinese name of LED is light-emitting diode junction. It is a solid-state semiconductor device that can convert electrical energy into visible light. It can directly convert electricity into light. The heart of the LED is a semiconductor chip. One end of the chip is attached to a bracket, one end is the negative electrode, and the other end is connected to the positive electrode of the power supply, so that the entire chip is encapsulated in epoxy resin. The principle is too complicated, but now more and more luxury brands are beginning to use LED as headlight source. In an environment that advocates energy conservation and environmental protection, the promotion of LED always seems to be a general trend.
advantage:
1. Energy saving and environmental protection: The energy consumption of LED lights is 1/20 of that of halogen lights.
2. Low cost and long life: The lifespan of LED lights from well-known manufacturers can reach 100,000 hours, which means that basically your car can’t be driven but it will still be on.
3. High brightness: The brightness is much higher than that of halogen lamps, so there is no pressure when used as a brake light warning light. (strong penetrability)
4. Low-voltage safety: LED, the first element used in electronics, only needs a DC voltage of 12V to light up. You no longer have to worry about the voltage of more than 20,000 xenon gas.
5. Instant lighting: No more “wait and then light” of the xenon lamp, you can use it whenever you want.
6. A single LED is small in size and has diversified shapes.
shortcoming:
1. Heat dissipation problem. If the heat dissipation is poor, the lifespan will be greatly shortened.
2. The power saving performance of low-end LED lamps is still lower than that of energy-saving lamps (cold cathode tubes, CCFL).
3. The initial purchase cost is high.
4. Because LED light sources are highly directional, lamp design needs to consider the special optical characteristics of LEDs.
There is no doubt that any new technology has shortcomings, but with the reduction of costs, LED car lights are likely to become the mainstream in the future. The advantages of LED's service life and high brightness are very useful for our daily use of cars.
