Have you ever encountered this? I was driving at night, and I didn't turn on my high beams, so how could I be flashed by the other side?
The other side did it on purpose. Is there something wrong with me or something?
In fact, there is a situation where the height of our low beam headlights may be too high. It is relatively simple to adjust it. Follow this video and you can master it in 2 minutes. After watching it, you might as well give it a try.
Find a white wall in the underground garage
First, find a white wall in the underground garage. The front of the car is facing the white wall, about 10m away.
If you don't bring a tape measure, walking 15 steps forward from the wall is almost 10m. Today's smartphones basically have virtual distance measurement and distance measurement.
At this time, when you turn on the car lights, you can see the shape of the low beam hitting the wall. There is a tangent line on it. This is the height of the low beam.
How to adjust it depends on the model.
Some models can only be adjusted in the engine compartment. Open the hood, find the serrated area behind the headlight, use a Phillips screwdriver to insert it, and turn it to adjust the height.
Some models also require the use of an Allen wrench. If you prepare the specific tools in advance, it will not be a big problem.
For newer cars, there is usually a headlight height adjustment knob in the car, usually on the center control panel on the lower left side of the steering wheel.
The function of this knob is for fine adjustment, and it controls the height of the left and right headlights at the same time. You cannot only adjust the left or right side in the car.
Therefore, you must first adjust the position in the engine room and set the knob to the middle. For example, if there are 5 gears in total, adjust it to 2nd or 3rd gear, and then go to the engine room and turn the screw.
What is the appropriate height adjustment?
What is the appropriate height adjustment? There are regulations, and you can't mess around.
GB 7258-2017 "Technical Conditions for Safety in Motor Vehicle Operation" states: Cars are generally set to a headlight height 5 to 30cm lower, and SUVs are 10 to 35cm lower.
We also went to test it and saw a dozen cars of various types in the parking lot, including cars, SUVs, and MPVs.
Generally, the headlight height of cars is a little over 60 to 70 cm, and no more than 80 cm; for SUVs, it is around 70 to 90 cm; for individual MPVs, it is over 1m.
You can use a tape measure to measure the height of the headlights. If the height is relatively low, reduce the height by about 5 to 10 cm. For a taller SUV, reduce the height by 10 to 15 cm.
Go to the wall 10m away and have the same height, mark it with a sticker, and then go inside the cabin and turn the screws to the marked height.
The right car light, that is, the passenger side, can be slightly higher than the left by about 5cm. It will not affect oncoming cars, and the illumination range will be farther and better.
Conduct final test
After all adjustments are completed, you can test the effect. For example, find a dark basement and check the range of the low beam.
Generally speaking, the illumination range of low beam headlights must be at least 20m in front, so that you can see more clearly at night.
You can sit in the car and feel it. If you feel it's not far enough, you can fine-tune it. If it's far enough or not bright enough, it's a problem with the bulb.
If you friends feel that you want to adjust the height of your lights and want to try it at home, I suggest you like this video or save it so that you can watch it at any time and forward it to your friends.
