However, some vehicles will turn on their fog lights when there is clearly no fog. This is a big mistake, but for some vehicles, it is excusable.
Have you ever tried adjusting your car lights yourself?
Basically, the headlights can be adjusted up, down, left and right, the low beam can be adjusted, and the high beam can also be adjusted. Some vehicles have integrated high and low beam adjustments; the adjustment method can be performed in the car through a knob or system, but it is also possible Fine adjustments can be made by adjusting the screws. Open the engine cover and you can find the adjustment screws on the headlights on both sides. When adjusting the headlights, you can always find that if the illumination angle is too high, the distance covered by the low beam will be longer, but the distance from the starting point to the front of the car will be longer. There will always be a blind spot in between. To put it bluntly, there is a distance that cannot be illuminated by light. It can be as short as about one meter and as long as one to two meters.
This distance is a real blind spot. In fact, most vehicles have it. It’s just a difference in distance. Generally, you don’t have to worry about a meter or so, because no matter how you adjust your sitting posture in the car, this part will be a blind spot, that is, no matter how bright the light is, it will be a blind spot. It cannot be covered and the driver cannot see this location.
What does this have to do with using fog lights?
The key point is that the blind spot is not only vertical, but also horizontal. Even if the low beams on both sides are adjusted to the left and right respectively, it is true that both sides of the vehicle cannot be seen clearly.
When the car is turning, you need to observe the blind spot. You can only stretch your head to take a look at the right blind spot. You can see clearly at the left blind spot by tilting your head slightly, or you can open the window and stretch out to see; however, you still can't see anything in the blind spot. If you know it clearly, you will feel uneasy when turning. That’s why some drivers will turn on their fog lights in normal weather. Fog lights are heat-dissipating light sources that illuminate the blind spots on the front and sides of the car, which can compensate for the blind spots of low beam lights; but this usage habit It's not good. The reason is that fog lights scatter light, which is as dazzling as high beam lights and affects other vehicles.
How to deal with it
When you find a problem, you must solve it, otherwise it will be in vain. There are only two ways to solve it.
1. Before turning into the blind spot, you can switch between high and low beams, use the high beam to observe the blind spot, and then switch back to the low beam and rely on "memory" to drive; this method sounds like a joke but it is not a joke. Driving a car is inherently difficult. We must rely on advance observation and prediction. When there is no reversing image, reversing means to observe (pre-judgment) by holding a plate first, and then make sure there are no obstacles before reversing. Of course, we must also observe through the rearview mirror. .
2. Technical means. There is a technical way to solve the blind spot of low beam lights, and that is "steering assistance"! When many vehicles turn or turn on the turn signal, whichever side they turn to, the fog lights on that side will automatically light up. The function is of course to compensate for the blind spot; turning on only when turning will not affect the car. After all, The turn signal itself is quite bright, and turning on the fog lights at this time can actually improve the warning effect.
The last way is to install "blind spot lights", that is, to install a set of non-scattered light sources with lenses or determinable angles to illuminate the front of the car and the blind spots of the two cars. As long as there is a cutting line, there will be no Impact; Many drivers have installed a set of auxiliary lights on their vehicles, but this approach is risky.
Traffic regulations do not allow vehicles to be equipped with additional lights. At best, a pair of fog lights can be added to a vehicle with reduced fog lights, but this is just because no one cares and it is not in compliance with the rules; therefore, the additional lights are likely to be investigated and dealt with. Mandatory removal is required and penalties will be imposed as illegal modifications. If you want to drive safely at night, you still need to learn to predict or choose a vehicle with steering assist.
