Some car owners know little about car lights and do not know the advantages and disadvantages of each type of car lights. In this way, when modifying car lights, they have no goals and do not know their own requirements. What should they do?
Car lights are mainly divided into three categories, namely halogen headlights, LED headlights and xenon headlights. In fact, these three types have their own advantages and disadvantages.
However, generally speaking, people care more about the brightness of car lights rather than energy saving or other considerations. Xenon lamps have an advantage in this aspect, so many mid- to high-end cars are equipped with hernia lamps, so when many car owners make modifications, they will Choose to change to a hernia lamp, but not all must be changed to a hernia lamp, some will keep the high beam as a halogen lamp.
Halogen lamp
The light-emitting principle is the same as that of incandescent lamps, but incandescent lamps have a fatal flaw: the brightness is limited, and the tungsten filament will volatilize at high temperatures and condense on the outer shell, causing the bulb to turn black and affecting its lifespan. Therefore, people fill incandescent lamps with halogen element gases, which can effectively increase the melting point and lifespan of tungsten filaments. Under the same power, the brightness of halogen lamps can reach 1.5 times that of incandescent lamps, and the lifespan is also 2 to 3 times that of incandescent lamps. However, halogen lamps have strong penetrating ability, so they have more advantages in rainy and foggy weather. This is why some cars retain halogen lamps as high beams when they are modified.
Xenon headlights
The English abbreviation is HID - gas discharge lamp, which was first used in air transportation. It is filled with a mixture of inert gases including xenon and does not have the filament that halogen lamps have. Its light-emitting principle is to form an arc between two electrodes through the starter and electronic ballast and emit light. The brightness is the highest among the three, so it is the most popular.
Generally speaking, the original car lights are halogen lamps. When retrofitting, you can keep the high beams as halogen lamps to cope with rain and fog weather, and to remind the other party of approaching cars when meeting cars, because there will be a delay with the xenon lights.
LED headlight
LED has many advantages. Because it uses light-emitting diodes, it has the advantage of smaller size. It is also the favorite of designers now. It can be assembled into various shapes and is very flexible. But LEDs also have drawbacks, such as heat dissipation issues. If the heat dissipation is poor, the lifespan will be greatly shortened. Low-end LED lamps are less energy-saving than energy-saving lamps (cold cathode tubes, CCFL). The initial purchase cost is higher. Because LED light sources are highly directional, lamp design needs to consider the special optical characteristics of LEDs. LED lamps have the advantage of lighting up instantly, which is something that hernia lamps do not have.
Laser headlights
Laser headlights have most of the advantages of LED headlights, such as fast response, low brightness attenuation, small size, low energy consumption, long life, etc. Compared with LED headlights, laser headlights have advantages, especially in terms of size. The length of a single laser diode component can already be 10 microns, which is only 1/100 of the size of conventional LED components. This means that as long as designers are willing, traditional The size of car headlights can be significantly reduced, which may bring revolutionary changes to the design proportions of various elements on the front face of the car.
Another significant advantage of laser headlights is in terms of luminous efficiency. For example, the luminous efficiency of general LED lighting can reach about 100 lumens per watt, then laser diode components can reach about 170 lumens per watt. This means that when the same lighting requirements are met, Under certain conditions, the energy consumption of laser headlights is less than 60% of LED headlights, which further reduces energy consumption and is more in line with the energy saving and environmental protection trend of future automobiles.
Fengtai's LED bifocal lens and Fengtai's laser are very safe modifications because they match the original car.
The above is Fengtai Auto Lighting’s introduction to the types of car light modifications. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.
